CMA Adopts CPT® Code Set for the Sultanate of Oman’s Dhamani Health Insurance Platform

MUSCAT - The Capital Market Authority (CMA) of the Sultanate of Oman and the American Medical Association (AMA) announced that Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set has been chosen for the Dhamani health insurance platform to support health data exchange, claims settlement and fund transfer between insurance companies, health organizations and supervisory and regulatory institutions in Oman.

Developed by the AMA to keep pace with modern medicine, CPT is a comprehensive medical terminology with a standardized code set that identifies and describes more than 10,000 medical services and procedures available to patients. CPT content has been licensed by national governments, health care providers and insurance providers around the globe and across the Gulf Region.

The CPT code set serves the needs of Oman’s data-driven health system by allowing c
linicians, hospitals, health insurers, regulators, and researchers to electronically exchange standardized information on the medical services and procedures provided to patients within the Dhamani platform. This seamless flow of information across Oman’s health system facilitates reimbursements, reporting, predictive analysis and benchmarking of medical services delivered by all medical specialties which enables better patient care, more operational efficiency, and lower costs.

The Executive President of the CMA, H.E. Abdullah Bin Salem Al Salmi stated that “Aligning with Oman’s National Vision 2040, the Dhamani health insurance program will promote an efficient, high quality health insurance ecosystem that will fund the healthcare industry in Oman to facilitate a decent and sustainable life for all, while prioritizing well-being and social protection.  The internationally recognized CPT standards will increase the accuracy and efficiency of medical services in Sultanate of Oman and enhancing Dhamani platform performance.”

“For over fifty years, CPT content has served the needs of integrated health delivery systems that need efficient and effective data exchange to help improve cost, quality, and access to care,” said AMA President Gerald E. Harmon, M.D.  “As a uniform and rigorous code set, CPT is widely trusted as medicine’s universal language for reporting medical services and procedures provided to patients.“

An extensive annual process with broad input is used to enhance the CPT codes set to meet the coding demands of a modern health care system. This rigorous process keeps the CPT code set current with constant advances in medical knowledge, science, and technology so it can fulfill its vital role as the language of medicine today and the code to its future.
